Positive Bystanders Prevent Bullying

Heavenly Netball

With the netball season down to the "finals weekend", Netball is all but over. Not for the skilled and talented players in Room 17, and those from many other classes across the school!
After training and team-building we were feeling well prepared for our first match against the Hungry Hungry Hippos .... well a win, even one due to a default, is still a win.
Watch this space as we keep you updated on our success.

Meet the PP Crew ..... Perfect People

How to MUMMIFY Members of Your Class ....

PROCEDURES & EXPLANATIONS

This term Room 17 have been learning the writing genres of Procedures and Explanations. To conclude our study of procedural writing we mummified our classmates and documented the process we followed.

We then began our learning about the features of Explanation writing by examining an exemplar a student wrote about Egyptian mummification.

The concepts and culture of ancient Egyptian mummification are fascinating. The explanation we read told us that only wealthy men were mummified and this was to preserve their bodies in order for them to move into the afterlife.

In our first lesson we quickly noticed the deeper features that occur in explanations:
1. Specific words are used to show time-relationship, to link
ideas, and show the order of events.
2. The explanation was written in a logical order and all ideas
were backed up with detail and evidence.
3. Also, we noticed that a lot of technical language is used that
is appropriate to the topic.PROCEDURE FOR MAKING OUR MUMMIES

Equipment:
4 x toilet rolls
1 x volunteer to be mummified
1 x toilet roll-cardboard cylinder (optional)
3 x people to embalm the mummy
1 x camera to record the fun
Space to work in
1 x human dog (optional)

Method:
1. Decide who to work with.
2. As a group, chose your mummy.
3. Get the toilet paper you require.
4. Decide on a work space.
5. Roughly cover the person with toilet paper or start from
the feet and work up.
6. Now get all of the mummies in for a show.
